The third day of IEM Katowice 2020 continued with thrilling matches not only in terms of professional quality but also related to the “survival” aspect of the teams. Let’s take a look at the key highlights of the recently concluded third day of competition!
G2 Esports “brings the humor” in map 1, taking fans through every emotional rollercoaster
G2 Esports is enjoying a sweet streak on Dust 2, and in last night’s match against mousesports – the world’s #2 team, the French boys confidently picked this map. As the first half rolled on, G2 proved their choice was absolutely right, leading mousesports 12-3 with some “massive firepower” plays.
Just as it seemed G2 would have an easy map 1, the “circus” began as the match turned towards mousesports after the side switch. They suffered a stunning loss of 11 consecutive rounds, allowing their opponents to finish with a score of 16-13, leaving fans in disbelief.
And when everyone believed G2 would lose, the French lads flipped the switch to “serious mode”. Mousesports seemingly lost all semblance of the #2 ranked team in the next two maps, Inferno and Nuke, as G2 completely dominated both in skill and strategy, winning with scores of 16-6 and 16-7 respectively.
This was not a poor showing from mousesports players like ropz, woxic, etc., but G2 found their form and kennyS played exceptionally well. By defeating mousesports, G2 Esports secured the first spot in the playoffs.
World No. 1 Player of 2019 Officially Bids Farewell to the Tournament
ZywOo – the best player in the world of 2019 disappointed on the second day of competition when Vitality lost to Astralis 0-2. Clearly, this was not a result to blame the French Bees for, as they simply were not at the level to compete with Astralis.
Facing FaZe in the “survival” match, ZywOo still had the opportunity to prove himself and help Vitality survive in the lower bracket.
Indeed, ZywOo quickly returned and had an incredibly strong day, especially in the first map Mirage where his K/D ratio was 32/16, helping Vitality win this map with a nail-biting score of 16-14. However, while ZywOo was “soaring”, his teammates could not maintain their form, especially in the positions of apEX and shox, preventing the number one player from carrying Vitality in the next two maps, resulting in a bitter 1-2 loss against FaZe and officially exiting the tournament.
With this victory, FaZe will continue to face Na`Vi in the lower bracket final to determine which team will advance to the quarter-finals.
