Having just gone through the first 2 matches, the VCS Summer 2020 promises to bring an explosive season for the audience. While the enthusiastic stands of GG Stadium are making the entire world envious at the moment, the opening day of this tournament has even more delighted the fans of Vietnamese League of Legends.
Both newly promoted teams, Percent Esports and OverPower Esports, surprisingly achieved victories against the formidable names of VCS: Team Flash and Saigon Buffalo.
While OverPower Gaming’s victory over Saigon Buffalo might have been anticipated by many, given that Saigon Buffalo is undergoing a major roster change and primarily relies on young players, the loss of defending champion Team Flash against Percent Esports was truly a significant shock.
Entering the summer tournament, most professionals affirmed that with a massive shopping spree to bring in a series of top players like Palette, Naul, etc., Team Flash would easily replace GAM to dominate the VCS.
However, on their opening day, the reigning champions surprisingly stumbled against a much weaker opponent. The reasons for Team Flash’s defeat could stem from many factors, but the most apparent is their lack of cohesion in gameplay, and to some extent, Naul’s inability to regain his peak form.
Meanwhile, Percent Esports, led by the young talent mid-laner Glory, had an outstanding day of competition. Glory made a legendary debut in the VCS as he outperformed both top mid-laners in the tournament, Naul and Kati, leaving them… inactive.

Especially in game 1, when facing Naul, Glory’s Zoe not only completely dominated the mid-lane but also roamed very effectively, almost sticking to Slayder like a shadow and not allowing the FL star to play the game.
Meanwhile, game 2 seemed to belong to Team Flash, as they deployed their strongest lineup with Kati replacing Naul and Yijin replacing EGO, plus the champion Slayder for Kai’Sa. However, Team Flash’s late comeback was not enough to halt the momentum of the Percent rookies, resulting in the reigning VCS champions mirroring the reigning LCK champions by suffering a “complete loss” on their opening day.

The defeat on opening day is indeed disappointing, but it is not too serious for Team Flash. They have a strong and deep enough roster to turn the situation around. However, what worries the fans of this team the most is whether Naul can regain his best form, and whether FL’s blockbuster signing this summer will turn out to be a bust?
