In Teamfight Tactics, there are champions that are extremely powerful compared to others of the same cost. This allows players to utilize the same amount of gold to create a much stronger team than their opponents, starting off with a winning streak.

Below is the ranking of the strongest champions by cost:

1 gold

Caitlyn

Among the 1-cost champions, Caitlyn is the highest-rated. The reason is her decent auto-attack damage, which can trigger her quality trait, Chrono, early in the game. Especially, if she reaches 2 stars, not many enemy champions can withstand one of Caitlyn’s skills.

Graves

Although he is a 1-cost champion, Graves is quite popular even into the mid or late game. Besides activating the Gunner trait (currently the hottest in the meta), Graves also has a skill that blinds, countering many enemy auto-attack champions, buying a lot of time for his team.

2 gold

Lucian

Lucian is the strongest 2-cost champion in the current meta, regardless of the comparison factor. First, activating both the Cybernetic and Gunner traits is extremely powerful at any stage of the match. Second, his physical and magical damage (from skills) over time is quite stable. Third, he can dodge the Infiltrator with his dash skill, slightly increasing his chance of survival in battles. Finally, his ability to spread the Gunner effect is particularly strong when combined with Red Buff and Recurve Bow.

Zed

After Lucian, Zed is another champion that is highly regarded. When activating the Rebel trait, Zed has just enough shield to survive and take down the enemy’s backline carries. Zed can also serve as a great “item holder” for Jinx in the 6 Rebel or Brawler Gunner composition.

3 gold

Ezreal

With the ability to increase the energy used by opponents, Ezreal has always been highly rated since the start of Season 3. Additionally, he is currently the perfect piece to support Jinx with the 2 Gunner and Chrono buffs. Therefore, among the 3-cost champions, Ezreal is the most promising name in the current meta.

Vayne

Being the “upgraded version” of Lucian in the Cybernetic composition, Vayne can easily evade the attacks from the enemy team with her skill. Furthermore, Vayne also has very high damage thanks to her Cybernetic and Marksman passives, making her a true carry in the current top meta teams.

4 gold

Jinx

Once considered the weakest champion among the 4-cost champions in Season 3 by Riot Games, Jinx is now a champion that is “too strong to let slip.” In the current meta, with just a few basic items like Guardian Angel, Giant Slayer, and Blue Buff, Jinx can easily secure a top 4 position.

Gnar

As a champion that has both health and control in the tank lineup of Teamfight Tactics, Gnar’s strength lies in his ability to throw the entire enemy backline into the middle of the board for his team to attack. Moreover, Gnar has a lot of damage and health when in his Mega Gnar form, capable of carrying the team in certain cases when Gnar is ignored by opponents and targeted at the backline carries.

5 gold

Aurelion Sol

The Celestial Dragon is currently the strongest champion among the 5-cost champions. First, Aurelion Sol is the final piece for the hottest composition in the meta – 6 Rebels. Second, Aurelion Sol has an immense amount of damage, growing stronger the longer he survives. Third, this champion is very hard to take down due to his passive, Starship, which can buy considerable time or sometimes carry the team in certain situations by drawing the attention of the enemy team.

Ekko

Among the top meta compositions right now is Cybernetic, and Ekko has quite a bit of damage if equipped with the right items. Especially, as Gunner compositions rise in popularity, Ekko’s ultimate is a necessary skill to counter Jinx’s power. Furthermore, with the Infiltrator trait, Ekko can embrace the Frozen Heart and jump straight into the enemy’s carry lineup to slow their attack speed and delay their skill usage.

Urgot

As a champion that doesn’t require any trait activation to remain strong, Urgot will be nerfed in the next patch. However, in the current patch, he is still the “boss” with his powerful skill. Because aside from the Trap Claw, there are no items that can protect your carry from being pulled to death by Urgot.
