A few days ago, Riot Games officially announced that the venue for the MSI 2021 tournament would be the city of Reykjavík in Iceland. Just when it seemed everything would go smoothly, today the LoL community must worry again for MSI 2021 as the tournament is at risk of being postponed due to disasters in Iceland.
More details on this issue were revealed today by the Icelandic Meteorological Office, which announced that the country has experienced 17,000 earthquakes in just the past week. Among them, the most intense earthquakes were measured at magnitudes of 5.0 to 5.6 near Reykjavík. Residents in the area reported that they are used to earthquakes but have never seen them occur so frequently, with tremors almost 24 hours a day.

Additionally, Mount Keilir, located about 30km from Reykjavík, has been predicted by the Icelandic Meteorological Office to be very dangerous: “We are not sure if the volcano has erupted, but based on the signs, there will likely be a volcanic eruption in the near future.”

According to the announcement, Riot Games will share more details about MSI 2021 this weekend, so the decision to continue or postpone the event may be officially made then. However, both the earthquakes and the (potential) volcanic eruption significantly impact the competition process and especially the safety of those present, so the likelihood of MSI 2021 being postponed is very high.
