Recently, Netflix unexpectedly announced that it has officially acquired the distribution rights for Arcane – an animated series based on the League of Legends universe. This is one of the projects introduced during the 10th anniversary celebration of League of Legends in October 2019, but it wasn’t until a year and a half later that it was officially announced widely.
According to information from Netflix, Arcane will premiere on this film streaming platform this fall. It seems that after the success of DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, Netflix has become an even more reliable name for Riot Games to “entrust” their debut film project.

Based on the context in the trailer, we can confirm that the setting of Arcane will take place in Zaun, or possibly also include Piltover. Looking back at the development history of League of Legends, the Zaun – Piltover area has not had any separate events featured, and it is very likely that Riot Games will use Arcane as a tool to delve deeper into the storyline of these technological cities.
The League of Legends champions appearing in the trailer include VI and Jinx, and with this duo almost certainly taking on “lead roles,” it is very likely that closely related characters such as Caitlyn or Ekko will also appear. Additionally, Arcane promises to introduce several new characters that have never appeared in League of Legends (but may have appeared in Legends of Runeterra).
