Shortly after MSI 2021 concluded with Royal Never Give Up crowned as champions and DWG KIA finishing as runners-up in disappointment, recent information about the LCK Summer 2021 has been revealed on social media platform Twitter. Accordingly, the highest-level League of Legends tournament in Korea will officially kick off on June 9th – two weeks after MSI 2021 ended.

In this Summer 2021 season, 10 teams including: T1, DWG KIA, DRX, GenG, Afreeca Freecs, KT Rolster, Liiv SANDBOX, Nongshim Redforce, Hanwha Life Esports, and Fredit BRION will compete for the LCK Summer 2021 championship trophy and to select the top four teams that will vie for spots in the 2021 World Championship to be held in China.
The tournament format for this phase will be similar to the Spring 2021 season. After the group stage concludes, the top 6 teams will advance. The 3rd place team will face the 6th place team, while the 4th place team will meet the 5th place team in the Quarterfinals. In the Semifinals, the winners of the Quarterfinals will compete against the 1st and 2nd place teams to determine the final two names that will appear in the Finals.
Based on their performance in the Spring and at the recent MSI, DK is undoubtedly still the top contender for the championship. However, let’s not forget that LCK has many other teams capable of challenging the strength of ShowMaker and his teammates such as T1, GenG… One thing to note is that the two-week break is relatively short for DK members to get back into form after their bitter defeat in Iceland.

Additionally, LCK Summer is likely to adopt version 11.11, therefore, the two new champions Viego and Gwen are likely to remain absent due to numerous bugs that Riot has yet to adequately address at this point.
