The “Powerful” Strength of Blade Master – Mage in TFT Season 14

In TFT Season 14, Riot Games has reintroduced a race that significantly boosts stats called Mage. Essentially, Mage is a different version of Celestial from season 11, as it also has easy activation conditions and provides many powerful stats for the entire team. The annoying aspect of Mage in season 14 is that the units providing defensive stats like Gragas and Rhaast are extremely cheap. When combined with 3-star reroll strategies, these units become incredibly resilient.

Recently, top players have sought the combination of Mage and Blade Master with two key units: Graves and Rengar. Both units have abundant damage, good execution capabilities against opponents, and can quickly reach the backline. Combined with the increased defensive stats from Mage, these two key units can withstand fights strongly and significantly reduce the amount of damage dealt by opponents.

The final annoying aspect of Blade Master – Mage is that it fixes the late-game weakness of reroll formations. This is because the Blade Master system has two extremely strong key units in the late game: Vex and Urgot. They can provide additional damage for the key units and even help players finish the match if equipped properly. All of these factors have turned Blade Master – Mage into a “perfect” formation with abundant damage and strong resilience from mid to late game.

Building the Blade Master – Mage Formation in TFT Season 14

In the early game, players should start with the 2 Taurus threshold featuring Alistar and Graves. Next, Dr. Mundo will be a cheap choice, easy to upgrade to 2 stars, and resilient enough to serve as a tank in the early game. At level 5, players can bring Rhaast into play along with any Vanguard unit to increase the resilience of the entire formation, especially Graves.

Moving into the mid-game, players will stop buying experience at level 6 and roll slowly to upgrade Graves and Rhaast. Next, units like Jarvan IV, Rengar, Gragas, or Varus will be necessary additions to activate the highest possible thresholds for Blade Master and Mage. This will help the key units have high resilience and withstand fights effectively to optimize damage output.

After completing the goal of upgrading Graves and Rhaast, players need to quickly level up to 8 to add strong units like Vex or Urgot. If players have enough gold to reach level 9, Renekton will be an extremely strong addition that players should take advantage of. This unit has good resilience and can deal significant damage right from 1 star, sharing the “carry the team” responsibility with Graves and Rengar.

Some Notes When Building the Formation

With the high critical hit potential from the Blade Master system, players should focus on building fighter items for Graves and Rengar to optimize damage. Accordingly, Bloodthirster and Giant Slayer will be top priorities when equipping items for these two units. Additionally, Quicksilver is also a great choice if facing opponents with many crowd controls. As for the Tech Core, upgrades that provide more items should be prioritized when the Blade Master system has many strong damage-dealing units.
