“Be my BRO!” is the name of the program aimed at selecting young talents from Vietnam’s League of Legends to send abroad, organized by Fredit BRION in collaboration with AVM and Box Sports in Vietnam. The program has attracted the attention of the local League of Legends community, and recently, the team’s fanpage also announced the end of the application round.

Văn Tùng is currently one of the hottest commentators in Vietnam’s League of Legends, participating in nearly all major tournaments from VCS to LPL and LCK. We had a quick chat with Văn Tùng to better understand his role in this event.

Hello Văn Tùng, how do you feel upon learning that you were selected as a member of the advisory board for Fredit BRION?

As soon as I learned that Fredit Brion recruited me as a member of the advisory board, I was quite happy and honored. This position is not a long-term role as it is just part of a selection program, but it partially affirms that my efforts have been recognized by a professional esports team from Korea.

Could you share more specifics? Is it a short-term job?

Fredit BRION wants to find a Vietnamese advisory board that has both expertise and an understanding of the playstyle and characteristics of Vietnamese candidates. Of course, they already have a coaching staff including a Head Coach and highly skilled Coaches, but they believe that a Vietnamese advisory board will understand the young Vietnamese talents better, providing them with additional objective evaluations when selecting trainees.

Thus, my role, along with other advisory board members, will be to accompany the selection committee from Korea to choose candidates for internships in Korea.

Can you reveal the names of the other advisory board members?

I would be very happy to disclose (laughs). However, the announcement will be made by the Korean club, so we must temporarily keep the information. You will know who my colleagues are very soon!

Personally, how do you think this trainee selection program will impact the League of Legends scene in Vietnam and Korea?

In my opinion, such a selection program is a significant step forward and a promising sign. We have witnessed SofM’s success in the LPL, so we have the right to hope to see a player of Vietnamese descent in the LCK or international tournaments. It not only opens up career development opportunities for professional League of Legends players but also provides young talents with the chance to be trained in a professional and… harsh environment like Korea.

I believe in Vietnamese players; you are not inferior, you just lack opportunities to learn and shine. This is your chance!

What do you think Vietnamese League of Legends still lacks to reach a professional level similar to the LCK?

Personally, I think it’s the environment. The professionalism of Korean Esports is ahead of other regions. They have seriousness and strict discipline, and players are always self-disciplined and focused on one goal: competing.

Korea also invests heavily in Esports, and government perspectives and policies promote local esports. That is something I think Vietnam needs more time to catch up.

Learning and training are essential for the development of Vietnamese players, according to commentator Văn Tùng

How do you evaluate the chances of VCS participating in the 2021 World Championship?

At this point, it’s very hard to say anything about VCS’s participation in the 2021 World Championship. The VCS teams themselves are also waiting for information. As a fan of VCS, I really hope to see a Vietnamese team participating in this year’s Worlds.

Fairly speaking, which region do you think will win the world championship this year? LCK or LPL?

I think the chances belong to both regions, depending on which team remains alert and executes their strategy better in the match. Personally, I would quietly cast a vote for LPL.

Thank you, Văn Tùng, for the conversation, and I wish you success in finding many talents and creating opportunities for Vietnamese gamers to reach a world-class Esports environment like the LCK.

Thank you, and I hope you will continue to support Văn Tùng and follow the Be my BRO! program in the near future.
