Yesterday – September 5th, Riot Games continued to introduce us to the highly anticipated new trailer for the movie Arcane. This trailer provides viewers with a clearer look at the film’s main conflict as the two regions of Piltover and Zaun are juxtaposed with contrasting imagery. This is likely the key reason leading to the rift between the main characters, sisters Vi and Jinx.
However, this trailer is not simply an introduction to a part of the Arcane film’s content. In the aforementioned video, Riot Games has cleverly hinted at a mysterious masked assassin who influences the story. The first scene where this character appears is when he (or she) glides on a hoverboard to chase after a member of Vi and Jinx’s group from when they were young. Later, at the end of the trailer, we see this character directly attacking Jinx as she has matured.
This suggests that this character has had a longstanding vendetta against Jinx. From this, we can conclude that this mysterious character also hails from Zaun and is a member of some gang that opposes Jinx in this city.
Looking back at the Champion Development Roadmap from April this year, Riot revealed the first images related to the new marksman champion, which showed part of some machine. When this part operates, it emits a distinctive yellow-green light. In the trailer, the hoverboard of the mysterious masked character also emits the exact same light as the part Riot previously introduced. It is very likely that this part is the engine that allows the hoverboard to function.
From the above clues, we can speculate that the mysterious masked character is the marksman champion that Riot previously hinted at. Coupled with the fact that this character also originates from Zaun, the accuracy of this speculation is quite high. Furthermore, the long-standing rivalry with Jinx also reflects the “never give up” nature that Riot mentioned. Introduced as a marksman and associated with a bizarre mask, this character inevitably reminds us of Jhin.
Essentially, the aforementioned mysterious character only appears fleetingly in the trailer for the Arcane movie. Therefore, League of Legends players still do not have any additional information about this character. Perhaps we will have to wait until the Arcane movie officially premieres or wait for Riot’s disclosures for the identity, skill set, and backstory of this character to become clearer.
