T1 Secures Victory but Smash is ‘Not Happy’, Reveals Possible Break from Competition

Smash seems to be facing quite a few issues at the moment despite T1's convincing win.

Smash is ‘Not Happy’ Despite Helping T1 Win

The second week of the LCK Regular Season was indeed a significant challenge for T1 as they faced the defending champions of the tournament – HLE. Therefore, the match against KT would carry substantial meaning as it provided a psychological boost for T1 to gain confidence before facing this formidable opponent. In fact, T1 managed to handle KT quite smoothly with a convincing 2-0 victory as they look forward to clashing with HLE this weekend.

Despite the convincing win, T1’s young AD carry – Smash expressed that he was ‘not happy’ after the match against KT. The reason stems from the fact that he played rather carelessly in some situations, causing T1 difficulties during the mid-game. Furthermore, Smash left open the possibility of not participating in upcoming matches due to his less-than-ideal health condition.

In the post-match interview, Smash shared that he has been feeling under the weather recently and may have to take a break from several upcoming matches due to health issues.

“I am really quite angry with myself for not playing well in game 2. There were two dragon fights where I played too carelessly, chose poor positions, and got taken down, putting my team in a tough spot. At that moment, I thought if I kept playing poorly like this, everything would go wrong. Thanks to my brothers for playing very well to help the team secure the victory in the end. Additionally, I have been quite sick for about a week and I am still not fully recovered. Honestly, I don’t even know if I have the stamina to compete, and I might have to miss a few matches,” Smash shared after the match against KT.

Smash Still Needs to Prove a Lot in T1’s Jersey

Indeed, looking back at game 2 between T1 and KT, viewers could see that Smash seems to struggle with champions like Miss Fortune. He appeared very comfortable using Kai’Sa in game 1 but chose poor positioning when using poke champions like Miss Fortune. The consequence was that in several mid-game skirmishes, Smash getting caught too early or using abilities ineffectively led to T1 lacking significant damage and facing challenges against KT.

Smash's ultimate that almost missed led to T1's subsequent failed team fight.

This indicates that Smash seems to perform well only with hyper-carry champions and when his teammates funnel resources and protect him thoroughly. It’s important to note that League of Legends is a game with a huge variety of strategic depth, and teams often possess a multitude of plans and compositions to secure victories. Smash’s apparent one-dimensional style of play suggests that he needs to improve and learn a lot if he wants to become the successor to T1’s AD carry position.
