Mutations
To say the least, Mutations is the most “random” composition during the building process. Basically, to make this composition strong, you need to have Malzahar and Cho’Gath at 3 stars, which is already difficult as it requires rolling a lot at level 7. Next, you also need to have the appropriate Mutation effect for Malzahar and Cho’Gath. Finally, to secure victory, your Cho’Gath needs to have the Guardian Emblem to take advantage of his massive health.

Besides the above, to successfully build a Mutation team, you need to have Cho’Gath early as this unit needs to accumulate a lot of health. Clearly, with the dependence on too many “random” factors, the stability of the Mutation team is extremely low and not suitable for “ranking up” at the end of the season. You might have a dominant victory with the Mutation composition, but it’s not a team comp that can be “spammed” continuously.
Basic Challenger
Although it has greater power stability compared to the Mutation team, the weakness of the Challenger team is its heavy reliance on technology cores. Especially with the basic Challenger composition centered around Yone and Fiora, you depend heavily on having cores like Blade Edge or Domineering Sword to secure victories. With Yone often using Runaan’s Hurricane and Green Bow, lacking the Blade Edge core will leave this unit severely lacking in damage.

Furthermore, using too many 4-cost champions in the composition is also a significant drawback for the Basic Challenger team. You will almost have to endure the mid-game phase to reach level 8 and then roll later, hoping to get at least Yone and Fiora to 2 stars. Not to mention that you need to have Kai’Sa to close out the match; however, with the recent nerf from Riot, this has become much more challenging.
Mage – Empire
Among the compositions related to the Empire trait in Teamfight Tactics, the Mage team is the most affected. This is because this composition relies heavily on having Swain at 3 stars, with full items to ensure good recovery and tankiness in the front line. When this unit is nerfed, other Mages in the backline become much easier to take down. Remember that the Marksman – Guardian composition still exists in the meta, and Kog’Maw can easily “blow away” your Swain.

Moreover, this composition has a significantly lower power spike compared to other Empire teams, as Samira or Talon do not benefit much from the Mage Emblem. Therefore, in matchups against other Empire teams like Assassin or Challenger, this composition often finds itself at a significant disadvantage. Thus, the advice here is to opt for a safer, more straightforward strategy with the Empire trait, focusing on Samira and Talon to climb ranks instead of Swain at this moment.
