Kicking off the Rumble Stage at MSI 2022, Faker’s T1 did not have a truly favorable start. As the champions of the LCK Spring Split and the “undefeated” team in the League of Legends scene, T1 was unexpectedly “shut down” by G2 Esports. Particularly, Faker and his teammates lost despite having a significant lead in the early and mid-game stages.

Besides reasons like G2 playing exceptionally well and coordinating effectively, we cannot ignore that the T1 players did not perform up to their best. However, afterward, T1 managed to defeat PSG Talon and somewhat regained their spirits. Meanwhile, T1’s opponent, Saigon Buffalo, lost both of their opening matches against two opponents that could be considered the toughest matchups for the VCS representative.

Facing SGB at this time was an excellent opportunity for T1 to bolster their spirits after the shocking loss to G2. Once again, T1 allowed SGB to take First Blood, but afterward, with superior skills, Faker and his teammates maintained most of the advantage. The solo lanes were unable to push, causing SGB to gradually fall too far behind. Moreover, in team fights, the “200-year” champion Gwen proved to be too powerful, neutralizing SGB’s gameplay. Although “The Buffaloes” showcased some surprising plays at times, it wasn’t enough to prevent SGB from losing their third match in the Rumble Stage.
With this victory, T1 now holds a record of 2 wins – 1 loss after their first three matches in the Rumble Stage of MSI 2022. However, the time when they could face “easier” opponents has come to an end. Their next two opponents will be Royal Never Give Up and Evil Geniuses – representatives from the two Major regions of LPL and LCS.

As for SGB, their efforts are commendable, but it seems they are still not enough. The young players lack significantly in both skill and experience. Every move by SGB was read by T1. The VCS community can only express their disappointment for SGB.

Nevertheless, SGB is not entirely out of hope yet. Ahead of them lie many matches. If they truly put in more than 100% effort, VCS fans and SGB supporters can definitely believe in a surprise from the young “Buffaloes”.
