The first semifinal at MSI 2022 will feature a showdown between Royal Never Give Up and Evil Geniuses. Although these two teams have shown a significant skill gap whenever they meet in the Group Stage, many fans, especially Korean supporters, surely hope that EG and particularly Impact can make a difference. Neutral fans will be eager to see what strategies RNG will employ to overcome EG.
The skill gap was evident right from Game 1 of this semifinal. RNG demonstrated why they are the top contender for the MSI 2022 championship. Their focus was apparent in every movement and decision, even though EG is a significantly weaker opponent. Game 1 ended swiftly with a 100% advantage, from kills to major objectives and gold, showcasing RNG’s overwhelming strength against the LCS representative.
However, in Game 2 and especially Game 3, when pushed to the wall, EG truly showed some noteworthy counterattacks. RNG’s relentless offensive faced a fierce and determined resistance from the LCS players. Notably, in Game 3, RNG even made some critical mistakes that led to them being wiped out at the first Baron, followed by losing the Elder Dragon. However, the power disparity was too great, and even though RNG faced some difficulties, they knew how to close out the game. In the final team fight, RNG wiped out all EG players, becoming the first team to reach the MSI 2022 finals.
It can be said that RNG’s victory was not exactly easy. However, the LPL representatives did not have to exert themselves too much or deploy any “secret weapons” to deal with EG. With an early game advantage and a day off, RNG will certainly enter the finals with their best form and mindset, regardless of whether their opponent is T1 or G2 Esports.
