A few hours ago, during the match between T1 and Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) in the LCK Summer 2022 tournament, several incidents occurred that stirred the League of Legends (LoL) community in Korea, particularly T1 fans, and caught the attention of the international community as well. Specifically, the match had to be paused multiple times due to a bug related to the Smite spell used by Oner, T1’s jungler.
After the match, many opinions emerged from both the LoL community and T1 players, including Faker and Oner, regarding the incident. Oner himself had to quickly post a message on his personal Instagram to assert that he had no intention of exploiting the bug to gain an advantage in the match. As for Faker, in the post-match press conference, he stated “the occurrence of bugs is extremely unfortunate, and this regrettable incident diminishes the value of esports in the eyes of fans”.

Currently, T1 and most of the LoL fans in Korea are waiting for the tournament organizers to address the incident. Because, as Oner mentioned, he reported the bug but did not receive timely action from the referees.

However, according to some rumors, T1 may face point deductions. A well-known internet user in the LCK fan community stated that quitting the match (Alt + F4) would be considered an invalid action, potentially leading to point deductions for T1. This individual also referenced a supplemental legal document to support their argument.

Yet many believe that T1 players were warned during the match, so it is likely that the team will not face penalties. Of course, no one will know the outcome until the LCK organizers officially comment on the matter, including the severe bugs that occurred during the match between T1 and HLE.
– “They warned about this, so I don’t think T1 will be penalized.”
– “They have been warning for a while, so it should be fine.”
– “Did someone quit the match on their own? Who was that?”
Once again, the LCK organizers have frustrated the community with their handling of incidents during matches. If this situation cannot be clearly resolved, the community’s disappointment will undoubtedly escalate, especially since the LCK is one of the major tournaments that garners significant attention from the global LoL community.
