As known, the match between T1 and Gen.G ended dramatically. The match extended to the 5th game, and T1 was the team that ultimately emerged victorious. This is one of the rare occasions when T1 faced Gen.G but was not favored. According to many viewers, the match extending to a BO5 was entirely reasonable given the intense nature and performance of both teams.

However, for T1, the drawn-out match was unnecessary and somewhat unexpected. After the first two games, T1 demonstrated absolute dominance. In fact, Faker and his teammates even pressured the opponents throughout the third game. Only through the excellence of Chovy, along with a bit of luck, did Gen.G manage to take back the third game and subsequently completely control the fourth game, bringing the match to a decisive fifth game.

In the post-match interview, Oner candidly admitted he was not satisfied with this victory. T1’s jungler stated: “The score should have been 3-0, but we were too hasty and overconfident. In the play with Zeus, I thought Sion could stop Rumble. But in the end, I got taken down. I think the match would have been easier if we hadn’t played so excitedly.”

Oner’s viewpoint was also indirectly confirmed by Gumayusi in his post-match interview. Despite delivering a top-notch performance, Gumayusi felt that games 3 and 4 were his least satisfying moments. He shared: “We were overconfident after games 1 and 2, leading to two disappointing games. One game was turned around against us, and one we lost right from the start.”

Overall, the fact that the match against Gen.G reached game 5 was something the T1 players did not expect after the complete performance in games 1 and 2. The overconfidence and haste were evident. T1’s next opponent will be JD Gaming – the reigning LPL champions. T1 players must immediately eliminate this overconfident and anxious mindset, as JDG is also a contender for the MSI 2023 championship and is ready to punish any mistakes made by Faker and his teammates.
