On May 30, one of the championship contenders of LPL Summer 2023 – EDward Gaming (EDG) had their debut in this tournament. Facing an unstable Ninja in Pyjamas (NiP), EDG secured a convincing victory with a score of 2-0. This is a good start for an ambitious team like EDG.

However, behind this seemingly easy victory, EDG faced several challenges. The reason is that both the players and the coach of EDG are on the training list in preparation for the upcoming ASIAD. As a result, by the time this team gathered, they had only one day left before their match in LPL Summer 2023.

In fact, during an interview with the media in the LPL region, EDG’s coach even prepared himself for the possibility of losing to NiP. “We had too little time to prepare for the match. We played on the 30th, and on the morning of the 29th, we had our first practice match together after a long time. I personally prepared myself for the possibility of losing. Luckily, we won,” shared EDG’s coach Kenzhu.

Fairly speaking, having little preparation time didn’t affect EDG’s strength too much. The team has maintained the same lineup since the spring tournament, so they do not have to adapt to new personnel. Moreover, the overall gameplay of the current patch is quite similar to the final phase of LPL Spring 2023, so EDG didn’t encounter difficulties in executing their game plan.

In their next match, EDG will face a rather tough opponent, Top Esports. This promises to be a tense match as TES has quite a strong roster. Hopefully, EDG will make the most of their limited practice time ahead to continue their winning streak.
