Finally, the most anticipated match of the League of Legends (LOL) event at the ASIAD has taken place, with Korea facing off against their “great rival” China in the semifinals. This match is also considered the toughest for Korea on their journey to the gold medal. A victory for the host team, China, would make their quest for gold at this ASIAD even more meaningful. Moreover, this would be the first gold medal in ASIAD history for the LOL event.

However, the match did not unfold as fans had hoped. The tension seemed to only exist during the majority of the first game. After a skirmish near the Baron pit led by the duo Kanavi – Ruler, the match was decided. Moving into the second game, it was clear that the morale of the Chinese players had declined. Even Knight could no longer maintain his composure. The 2-0 result starkly reflected the skill and mental disparity between the two teams.

Witnessing the somewhat effortless domination by the Korean LOL players against their rivals, nearly the entire LOL community in Asia and even in the West is convinced that Faker and his teammates will secure the ASIAD gold medal this year. After all, neither Vietnam nor Chinese Taipei seems to have a chance if the Korean team continues to perform flawlessly. Some have even suggested to the ASIAD organizers: “Can we award the gold medal in LOL to the Korean team right now? If they play like this, the finals will just be a one-sided match.”

Such confident opinions are grounded in the fact that Korean LOL is currently too strong. Even opponents who previously defeated Korean players at the MSI 2023 have been completely neutralized. Therefore, the gold medal for LOL at the ASIAD seems to have the names of the Korean players engraved on it, and the only remaining question is when they will receive the award.
