Dominant Victory at Worlds 2025 Helps KT Close In on T1
At this year’s Worlds tournament, despite entering as the third seed, KT is arguably the most doubted name in the LCK. After an unexpected victory against Gen.G, KT ended their domestic LCK season with two swift losses. Before entering the quarterfinals of Worlds 2025, KT hadn’t faced any particularly “tough” opponents. However, the match against CFO helped KT inch closer to T1’s record for the “shortest total duration of BO3/BO5 matches in Worlds history.”

Specifically, the KT – CFO match concluded in just 86 minutes and 42 seconds, making it the second-fastest BO5 in Worlds history. The record for the fastest match belongs to T1, from their BO5 against LNG in 2023, which lasted only 84 minutes and 35 seconds across three games, showcasing T1’s complete dominance. In fact, following this match, Tarzan set a “noteworthy” record: becoming the first jungler to not secure a single Dragon in a BO5 at a Worlds.

KT’s “neat” performance in the Worlds quarterfinals could be a warning for Gen.G
Given what they have shown in the match against CFO, one can say that KT has prepared very well for this Worlds 2025. However, as mentioned above, most of KT’s opponents so far have been significantly weaker than them. Therefore, Gen.G will be KT’s biggest challenge at Worlds 2025 to date. KT has every right to dream, just as they were underestimated and created an earthquake in the LCK 2025 playoffs recently. They have solid grounds to maintain their spirit ahead of the upcoming semifinals.

Indeed, if they can overcome Gen.G, KT could very well replicate the “fairy tale” of DRX in 2022. They also arrived at Worlds with a mix of skill and luck, and were underestimated, yet have now become a name of great interest as of now.
