4 Crucial Tips from Challenger Players to Help Us Get Acquainted with the New Meta of Teamfight Tactics

Just a few days left until the monumental 10.12 patch or mid-set update of Teamfight Tactics lands on the official servers.

Champions are stronger than traits – origins

It may sound unreasonable, but reality has proven this to be true in Season 3 of Teamfight Tactics. In fact, there are compositions created solely to support a single carry, such as Kayle – Chrono or Sorcerer – Gangplank, which are the most exemplary examples of this viewpoint. Some champions are inherently strong and don’t need overly complicated traits or origins.

After the upcoming update, this will still hold true but from another perspective; you might not need large combos like 4 Brawlers to secure your tank line. Instead, you can drop weaker Brawlers like Malphite or Illaoi and add strong Vanguard units with various effects like Wukong or Nautilus to supplement crowd control effects.

The more carries, the better

In the next patch, many single-target threats will emerge, such as Urgot, new Spy units, or more familiar ones like Blade of the Ruined King. Going all-in on a single carry will therefore be extremely dangerous as you will lose all your damage if your opponent finds a way to counter it. Thus, a strong composition in the upcoming update should consist of at least 2 carry positions, one unit that can deal substantial damage early, and the other will clean up the battlefield.

The Marksman composition in the next patch promises to be extremely strong with the arrival of Teemo. This champion can deal a considerable amount of magic damage and drain the opponent’s health. Meanwhile, the other Marksman is Jhin, whose critical shots can clean up low-health targets extremely well.

Area damage is extremely important

The strongest carries in Teamfight Tactics are usually champions that can deal good area damage, such as Kayle, Miss Fortune, and Gangplank in Season 3. They often serve as the number one carries and are tasked with dealing heavy damage at the start of the rounds, while secondary carries like Jhin, Irelia… play a cleanup role.

However, new names with area damage like Teemo, Gnar, or Riven are likely to become incredibly strong carries due to their exceptionally powerful area damage. Meanwhile, secondary carries such as Vayne, Cassiopeia, or Urgot have unique skills to clean up the battlefield and finish off remaining enemies.

Adapting to the match is key

With the new meta and the introduction of new champions, each match is a completely new game with many new and strange building paths, so you need to adapt to the specific situations of each match to win. For example, with many compositions focusing on magic damage, you need to find a way to have at least a combo of 2 Mystics to survive; you might sacrifice a little damage, but countering your opponent is the most crucial key to victory.
