A Vietnamese LoL Player Unexpectedly Receives a Heavy Penalty
Accordingly, this LoL player is Dai Phu “Hoopa” Mong, who is competing under the banner of FURY Global in the LCO regional tournament. In a recent match between FURY and Antic Esports (Antic), Sportradar (a well-known agency for investigating sports misconduct) detected unusual signs surrounding the betting for FURY to lose the match.

After being directed by Riot, this agency investigated and found that Hoopa had encouraged another FURY player to participate in match-fixing during Split 1 of the LCO 2024 season. Although Split 2 has shown no signs of misconduct, the clear evidence from Split 1 was enough for Riot to impose a penalty.
Based on the information in hand and according to the Global Code of Conduct, Riot Games announced a one-year ban for Hoopa, effective from January 20, 2025. Although this player filed an appeal on January 16, it seems to have been ineffective.

Connection with Vietnamese LoL
In fact, not many VCS viewers know about Hoopa from LCO. However, the nickname “Hoopa” is quite familiar as it is the in-game name of player Nanaue – a young talent who once played for Vikings Esports in 2024. Because the LCO’s Hoopa registered this nickname first, the VKE player had to change his name.

And once again, a Vietnamese player has “sullied” the reputation and left the VCS community feeling disheartened. There may be reasons for this to happen, but betraying the trust of fans will come at a very high price.
