Vietnamese Gamers Frustrated by ‘Scammer’ – Not Only Did They Lose VIP Code, but They Were Also Accused by the Seller

Perhaps gamers should only buy games directly from publishers or through reputable intermediaries from now on.

Owning blockbuster games and unique, valuable items has long been the dream of hardcore gamers. Capitalizing on this mindset and gamers’ desire for bargains, some intermediaries have used false advertisements, leading many to find themselves in laughable situations after being scammed without realizing it.

Recently, a gamer named T. shared his unfortunate experience in various groups after being scammed by an untrustworthy intermediary who tricked him into buying a valuable code for the game Nioh 2.

According to the victim’s account, he purchased a Nioh 2 game disc from an online intermediary. When he inquired about the special code for the game, the seller assured him, “I haven’t played or redeemed it yet,” which was the primary reason the gamer spent nearly 1 million VND to buy it. However, after receiving the game disc and entering the code to obtain valuable in-game items, the victim was shocked to discover that the code had already been used.

If anyone doesn't know, the code the gamer asked about is for the special Demon Horde Armour set in Nioh 2, which is only available with a limited number of game discs.

When he confronted the seller, the gamer was told, “I don’t know what the code is” and was not allowed to return the game disc. In fact, after some argument, the seller even accused the gamer of trying to swap the item.

When advertising, they clearly stated, 'I haven't played or redeemed it,' indicating they knew exactly what the code was.

After being pressed by the gamer, he immediately denied knowing what the code was.

If we use our deduction skills after reading 96 volumes of Conan, we will see a glaring contradiction in the seller’s words above. First, when the gamer asked if the disc still had the code, the seller replied, “I haven’t played or redeemed it yet,” which refers to the game, while ‘not redeemed’ clearly refers to the special code. So, the seller was aware of this special code; there’s no need for deduction to realize that a seller understands the value of what they are selling.

In-game items and special equipment codes are ways for publishers to entice gamers to buy their games.

However, after being questioned by the gamer about why the game reported the code had already been used, this seller responded, “I don’t know what the code is.” If he didn’t know what the code was, there’s no way he could have known the code’s status as ‘not redeemed’ when the item hadn’t even been sold yet. From this, we can conclude that this ‘scammer’ lied and used that special code for himself, or he was negligent to the point of not checking the value of the item he was selling, leaving the gamer as the clear victim.

After this incident, gamers should take this experience to heart when purchasing valuable products, especially games and special items, online. We should only buy games directly from publishers or through reputable intermediaries, as it provides a place to file complaints in case of any issues.
