On October 12th, the VCS representative – Team Whales (TW) achieved an emotional victory against CBTC Flying Oyster (CFO) at the 2023 World Championship Play-In Stage. This victory helped the Whales secure the top position in Group B convincingly. With just one more win against the second-placed team in Group B, TW will officially advance to the Swiss stage of the 2023 World Championship.

Notably, TW’s method of defeating CFO was quite similar to their victory over Team BDS. The VCS representative once again lost the first game but made a spectacular comeback in the following two games. This demonstrates that TW possesses considerable resilience and is a formidable opponent in the Play-In Stage.
In fact, TW’s victory inadvertently led to a big team named G2 Esports (G2) facing harsh criticism from fans. The reason was G2’s attempt to underestimate TW on social media after the latter lost to CFO in game one. After the VCS representative claimed the overall victory, G2 was continuously mocked by fans for their “loose lips” situation.

After this incident, G2 will likely refrain from making underestimating comments about the VCS region or TW. G2 has often faced defeats in tournaments against teams from the VCS region. Remember during MSI 2022, G2 suffered a bitter loss to Saigon Buffalo (SGB). In fact, the current jungler of TW – BeanJ was one of the members from SGB who defeated G2 at that time.

For TW, their style of losing the first game and winning the match is delighting fans following the 2023 World Championship. This shows that the VCS representative can adapt very quickly to opponents as well as the situation of the match. It can be said that TW is currently a strong candidate to advance past the Play-In Stage of the 2023 World Championship.

With such impressive resilience, TW could very well create even bigger surprises in the near future. Who knows, G2 Esports might have to pay the price against TW (if the two teams meet) for their earlier comments.
