A Rare Member of T1’s Coaching Staff Who Frequently Defends Gumayusi
Currently, the stories surrounding Gumayusi and T1 are perhaps only left in the memories or disputes among a section of T1 fans, as well as the supporters of the AD Carry born in 2002. After a tumultuous 2025, Gumayusi has left to join HLE and even faced T1 in his very first tournament during the finals. However, looking back, there is one member of T1’s coaching staff who has always stood by and understood Gumayusi, and that is Mata.

Recently, Coach Mata shared more about his former student: “Regarding Gumayusi, throughout this season, I feel we have demanded too much from him. He has probably gone through more difficulties than anyone else. But importantly, he has overcome everything and emerged victorious.”
Previously, Coach Mata was also the only member of the T1 coaching staff who frequently offered consolation and encouragement to Gumayusi. When he appeared disheartened about being on the bench, Mata came over to comfort and encourage him. The legendary support player from Samsung Galaxy and SKT T1 was also the only one in the coaching staff who noticed Gumayusi still sitting there while his teammates gradually left the meeting room.

The community is also buzzing about Coach Mata’s comments regarding Gumayusi.
It would be redundant to mention the community’s reactions surrounding the situation, especially since Gumayusi is now part of HLE. However, from Coach Mata’s remarks, once again we see how the AD Carry, who has won three consecutive World Championships, possesses such resilience and strength.

In the new season, his role will become even more important as Riot has made adjustments to strengthen AD Carries. In this context, fans of Gumayusi as well as HLE supporters will certainly look forward to Gumayusi’s resilience and talent to help HLE truly break the dominance of Gen.G and T1.
