As known, in a recent match during Round 2 of the Swiss stage of the 2023 World Championship (Worlds), T1 faced yet another defeat against Gen.G – their “fierce rival” in the LCK. Obviously, given that T1 had struggled hard against Team Liquid and was somewhat underperforming compared to the Gen.G players, it was completely understandable for Faker and his teammates to lose. However, the events surrounding the match are what caught the audience’s attention.

Specifically, after the match concluded, many noticed a detail: Gumayusi was very slow in shaking hands with the Gen.G players, making them wait for a moment while his teammates had already greeted their opponents. Only after being prompted by Faker did Gumayusi realize the Gen.G players had come over to greet them, and everything was resolved afterwards.

On many forums, this situation with Gumayusi immediately sparked controversy. Known for being a player with a strong personality and having made some “arrogant” statements in the past, many anti-fans seized this opportunity to attack Gumayusi. They claimed that T1’s Marksman showed too much disdain for his opponents, or that he was unwilling to accept defeat, leading to disrespectful behavior towards the Gen.G stars after the match.

However, the majority of opinions pointed out that Gumayusi simply did not notice the Gen.G players had arrived, as he was focused on packing up his belongings. The recorded clip clearly shows that as soon as he was called by Faker, Gumayusi turned around and even had a surprised expression. Immediately after, T1’s Marksman stood up to shake hands with the Gen.G players.

In reality, it can be said that Gumayusi is always one of the most professional and optimistic players in T1. Therefore, it is hard to believe that he would disrespect his opponents as accused by a segment of extreme fans. The loss to Gen.G was just a BO1 and T1 still has a good chance to advance, so there’s no reason for Gumayusi, who usually maintains his composure very well, to lose his spirit as some have suggested.
