The Reason Behind the Disappearance of the “Super Product” LoL MMO
In 2020, the leadership of Riot Games announced some extremely noteworthy information that they were developing a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). The world in which this game is set is the universe of LoL, so many gamers were very eagerly anticipating its release. In fact, with a deeply crafted world and many interesting characters, the LoL MMO game promised to be a true “super product.”

However, since its announcement over 4 years ago, this project has almost completely disappeared. This has led many gamers to question why this project has yet to take shape. Recently, in a social media post, former core employee of Riot Games – Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street shared noteworthy insights regarding this issue.

“Riot Games was once ready to release an imperfect game to gather feedback from players and then improve it. Both LoL and later TFT were developed in this manner and they were successful. However, later on, they abandoned this approach and ignored feedback from the community, wanting to create a “perfect” game before release. I believe that instead of waiting for a “perfect” game, players would prefer to enjoy the game sooner and let the developers update it gradually,” Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street shared.

The Future of the “Super Product” LoL MMO Remains Very Uncertain
Fairly speaking, the insights shared by Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street above have some reasonable points. Even in the development of LoL, the team at Riot Games has shown several times that they do not take the opinions or feedback from the gaming community too seriously. A prime example is the statement “Our champions are not unbalanced” after they released a series of overpowered champions like Aphelios, Samira, Yuumi…

With the LoL MMO project, this approach is causing the game to remain “unformed” despite being announced over 4 years ago. The last time the leadership of Riot Games mentioned it was a rather sad announcement where they shared that the LoL MMO project would be “rebuilt” once again and return to the development process. If Riot continues to maintain its current development approach, players may have to wait a very long time (possibly 3-4 years) to get their hands on this “super product.”
