The Runner-Up at Worlds Faces More Departures Before 2024 Ends

The poor performance in Spring 2024 is affecting this team.

Since joining the LPL in 2021, Weibo Gaming (WBG) has been considered a relatively young name in this tournament. Therefore, becoming the runner-up at Worlds 2023 in their first appearance is seen as a very proud achievement for WBG. However, after Worlds 2023 ended, this team experienced a rapid decline.

First, during the post-Worlds transfer period, they parted ways with TheShy, who was an extremely important player for WBG. Another outstanding player, Weiwei, also left WBG during this time. The additions of ZDZ and Xiaohao were not enough to fill the gaps left by these players. As a result, WBG only managed to secure a top 6 position in the LPL Spring 2024 playoffs after being swept 0-3 by JDG.

Not stopping there, another star from the Worlds 2023 runner-up roster is also rumored to be leaving WBG soon. Specifically, in a recent live stream, former player AmazingJ revealed that Xiaohu is set to part ways with WBG. His next destination is his “old home” RNG.

“Let me reveal this to you, RNG will truly be the ‘God’ at the upcoming Summer LPL as they are set to acquire many stars. First, Milkyway will return to RNG after his loan contract with FPX expires. Next, RNG will buy Xiaohu from WBG. RNG will become a major force in LPL Summer 2024,” former player AmazingJ shared.

Recently, RNG has often been praised by other teams as the “king of scrims” due to their strong performances in practice matches. This indicates that RNG is a team with significant strength and potential. However, the current mid-laner, Tangyuan, has not performed well in official matches, leading to a poor record for RNG in LPL Spring 2024. If they truly acquire an experienced player like Xiaohu, this team will undoubtedly become much stronger in the next season.

As for WBG, if they were to lose Xiaohu as well, the competitiveness of this team would decrease significantly. In fact, it is entirely possible that this team will have to watch Worlds 2024 from home due to not qualifying for the regional qualifiers. Perhaps WBG needs to do everything possible to retain Xiaohu if they don’t want to see their team decline so rapidly.
