The MSI King is About to Disappear from Professional League of Legends
Since the tournament was officially held for the first time in 2015, MSI has become a well-known international tournament in the League of Legends community. Initially featuring only the Spring Split champions of the same year, but with a relatively short duration, MSI is considered a precursor tournament for teams preparing for the World Championship. Additionally, it is a playground where LCK is not too “dominant”, as the team that truly reigns as the “king” of this tournament is Royal Never Give Up – a name from LPL.

With 3 MSI championships to date, RNG remains the team with the most titles in the history of League of Legends. However, over time, the “Royal Legion” has gradually lost its standing in the professional League of Legends scene as they have invested heavily but have yet to claim a title at Worlds. In the LPL, RNG has also lost its dominance as other teams have invested more. Coupled with various controversies and backstage money dramas, RNG recently announced disappointing news: they have officially filed for bankruptcy.

Previously, RNG was involved in numerous lawsuits related to player contracts and with sponsors. Even former key players of RNG have filed lawsuits against their old team, such as Mlxg and Uzi.
The Disappearance of RNG in the Future Could Mark the End of a Glorious Era for LPL
In reality, although they have never won Worlds, RNG was the most popular team in the LPL during their peak. Thanks to their policy of “only recruiting domestic players,” RNG became the hope of LPL amidst the dominance of LCK. This is because LPL teams that have won Worlds have all had foreign players, and these foreign players were crucial pillars of the team.

From the moment they filed for bankruptcy to the official announcement, there will be some time, but perhaps for LPL fans or RNG fans in particular and the League of Legends community in general, this is just a period to reminisce about a glorious and powerful RNG.
