The Match Against FLY Showed That Chovy Is Still Far Behind Faker
Perhaps even the most optimistic LCS fans could hardly believe FlyQuest could push the MSI 2024 champion to such difficulties in the quarterfinal match between the two teams at Worlds 2024. This was the only quarterfinal that went all the way to game 5, and Gen.G had to pull out many of their favorite picks to secure a win against FLY in a score chase. It can be said that FLY could proudly exit the tournament as the second team this year to force Gen.G to rely on game 5 to determine the winner. However, Gen.G has urgent issues to address as they are about to face an even stronger opponent than FLY – T1.

And one of the issues is Chovy. In the match between FLY and Gen.G, there were many times Gen.G found themselves in difficult situations. However, the standout players were Kiin and Canyon. In fact, the former world champion from 2021 even had to unleash his Nidalee in two crucial games to help Gen.G secure victory. Meanwhile, Chovy’s role in this match was completely lackluster. Even when he played his signature champions like Ahri, Sylas, or Tristana, Chovy’s contributions were negligible.

This is clearly not what fans expect from a player who is anticipated to “carry the team”. If we look back at the 2023 Worlds, in game 3 against JD Gaming, Faker made his presence known with a spectacular Shurima Shuffle on Azir. In contrast, Chovy in this entire BO5, to be fair, was only average. But that was when he used Kassadin, or when Gen.G was completely dominant.

In fact, compared to some renowned Mid Laners, or those who have previously won Worlds, Chovy is still lagging behind. Everyone knows how Doinb “carried” FunPlus Phoenix, or how ShowMaker was the soul of Damwon Gaming’s gameplay in their prime. And there are also Caps, Xiaohu, and Zeka, who have all performed outstandingly when their teams were in danger.

Chovy Needs to Prove He Deserves More and the Upcoming Match Against Faker Is an Opportunity
At this moment, Chovy may be the best Mid Laner. But his composure remains a question mark. A lifeless Ahri, a struggling Sylas, or a Tristana with no impact from early to mid-game, that is not the image of the world’s number 1 Mid Laner. If Chovy performs like this against T1, Gen.G may not be able to recover.

The upcoming match against T1 will once again test Chovy’s composure. Because Faker and his teammates will not allow Gen.G to have their preferred picks, even if they choose the blue side. And in that case, whether Chovy can step up will directly affect Gen.G’s results against their “arch-rival”.
