The Bragging of the Former MSI King
In the history of League of Legends professional scene, RNG is regarded as the “MSI King” with 3 MSI championships in 2018, 2021, and 2022. However, since winning the MSI 2022, RNG has drastically declined and is no longer a “formidable” force in the LPL. In fact, during the recent 2024 LPL Summer Split, this team performed so poorly that they failed to qualify for the playoffs. The main reason behind this is that RNG has encountered significant financial troubles, preventing them from recruiting quality players and frequently forcing them to sell key players.

However, in their latest move, RNG boldly claimed they will have an extremely “strong” roster in the upcoming season. Specifically, RNG’s Twitter account (now X) recently posted a status saying: “You won’t believe the upcoming roster upgrade, trust me.” For a team facing financial issues like RNG, the “unbelievable” thing they mentioned could very well be recruiting a star-studded roster with a “huge” salary.

Legend Uzi Responds to the MSI King
Shortly after the post, RNG’s statement drew significant attention from LPL fans. The fact that this team has been struggling financially and selling key players like Xiaohu and Wei is well-known among LPL supporters. Therefore, it would be hard to believe if RNG could manage funds to recruit a star-studded roster to compete for titles in the upcoming 2025 season.

Even the legend who spent many years with RNG – Uzi, doesn’t believe in the aforementioned claims. Uzi revealed that he and his former teammate at RNG, AmazingJ, had discussions and were aware that they had not received salaries from this team for many years. Thus, when mentioning RNG’s bold statement, Uzi couldn’t believe they were being truthful and considered it to be unfounded claims.
“I still haven’t received my salary from RNG, so how could AmazingJ have? If they (RNG) can pay their debts, then I would believe this team could come back. To those running RNG, what baseless things are you trying to say? If you can’t pay the salaries you owe me, then don’t speak up anymore” – Uzi candidly shared during a live stream.

Indeed, in recent years, RNG has frequently been accused by former players and coaches of salary debts. Not to mention, the contracts of this team are often criticized as unreasonable and detrimental to the players. Most recently, Ming became the latest victim of such a contract when he was unable to livestream due to excessive constraints with RNG.

Perhaps for this reason, RNG’s claim about a star-studded roster was rebutted by Uzi and quickly became a “laughing stock” in the LPL. Even if RNG genuinely finds investors and new funding, they should first resolve the outstanding salary issues with their former players and coaches. This will help RNG restore their reputation and allow them to attract quality players in the future.
