The ‘Father’ of TFT Reveals: Zeri Once Had a Mechanic to Counter All Team Compositions, Ultimately Scrapped for Being Too ‘Complex’

Zeri was almost even stronger than she is now in TFT Season 6.5.

Currently, TFT Season 6.5 can be said to have entered a phase of saturation. There are hardly any new elements for players to explore, except for unique and rare team compositions that gamers will try to experiment with. Some players will focus on climbing the ranks, while many in the TFT community are looking forward to Season 7, which has already teased a lot of interesting information recently.

Overall, TFT Seasons 6 and 6.5 have brought many emotions to players. From some traits gathering enough advantages from previous seasons to several champions that can single-handedly carry the team. Notably, players have witnessed the dominance of the once-powerful Chosen mechanic, now converging into the Elegant trait. Standing out in this Elegant trait is Zeri – a champion who can sweep through all opponents with just the right items even at 1 star.

Recently, according to Riot Mortdog – the “father” of TFT, Zeri could have been even more ‘dominant’ with a mechanic to counter every type of team composition. Specifically, according to Mortdog, Riot once gave Zeri an additional third trait called “Scope”. With this trait, players could place Zeri’s “Scope” anywhere on the board, and Zeri would only attack that location. However, in the end, Riot had to scrap it due to its complexity.

Recently, Riot Mortdog revealed that Zeri could even become a counter for all team compositions with the trait called “Scope”.

This could be a super strong mechanic when combined with the passive of the Marksman trait that Zeri already possesses (increasing damage based on distance to the target). Because as long as Zeri has the right items, and her “Scope” is placed in a suitable position, she could immediately one-shot the opponent’s carry even if there are still shields in front of this champion. However, Riot Mortdog did not mention how Zeri would handle the situation once the target placed in her “Scope” was taken down. Perhaps due to the mechanic’s high mobility but challenging to balance, Riot decided to remove this secondary trait from Zeri.

Zeri would have been even stronger and more complex if she had the 'Scope' trait with a mechanism for dealing damage to the designated target

Perhaps hearing this news, many TFT players feel fortunate. Because if Zeri could quickly take down the opponent’s carry as soon as she entered the match, the rounds would lose much of their tension and would certainly lead to “Zeri spamming” across all fronts of TFT players.
