In recent months, Riot Games has had a tradition of reworking or releasing new champions, with Fiddlesticks being perhaps the only exception. Champions like Senna, Aphelios, Sett, and Wukong have dominated both solo queue and professional play simply because they are far more versatile and effective compared to other champions in their roles.

Just a few days ago, the staff member responsible for the rework of Volibear – Riot Lutzburg – revealed new details about this bear’s abilities, instantly causing an uproar in the community. Many have speculated that this demi-god will be using the Blade of the Ruined King, the strongest item for Fighters, making it ideal and potentially dominating the top lane with just this one item.

Riot Lutzburg: “Here’s a developer secret for you, although I guess someone will capture it and share it everywhere anyway: VOLIBEAR HAS THE HIGHEST ATTACK SPEED INTERACTION RATE IN LEAGUE OF LEGENDS. This means that building attack speed items for this champion will be incredibly effective.”

At least my suffering will end quickly.
So items like Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Blade of the Ruined King, and Trinity Force will be extremely powerful for Volibear?
Statikk Shiv for some extra lightning, maybe?
Yes, the top lane has found another abuser of the Blade of the Ruined King.
With this bear having the Hextech Gunblade, the game is basically over.
Blade of the Ruined King sounds pretty good, perhaps the next item will be Spirit Visage.

From the moment Volibear’s abilities were revealed, we could guess that this bear would build attack speed items, and the effects of his W skill along with the chain lightning from his passive would apply on-hit effects. Combined with Riot Lutzburg’s revelation that Volibear’s abilities have the highest attack speed interaction rate in League of Legends, it is evident that this champion will naturally utilize items providing this stat upon release.

Furthermore, at this point in time, the Blade of the Ruined King remains incredibly strong for melee champions, and coincidentally, this item provides both attack speed and powerful on-hit effects. Volibear is expected to hit the PBE servers on May 12 and will likely join the official servers at the end of this month. If the Blade of the Ruined King isn’t nerfed by then, there’s a 99% chance that Volibear will wield this item extremely dominantly.
