One of the most unique champions in Set 9 is Ryze, a champion that does not belong to any of the regions introduced by Riot. Furthermore, Ryze costs 5 gold and possesses one of the two unique traits: Sorcerer. This trait has made Ryze one of the most special champions in the current Set 9.

Accordingly, Ryze can summon the Portal of Space with characteristics from the lands appearing in TFT (Teamfight Tactics) Set 9. Naturally, each land will bring different effects and impact the entire team. For this reason, Ryze is considered a heavy support champion that players must calculate very carefully when using. This is because the lands chosen by Ryze are extremely random.

Because of this randomness, Ryze inadvertently becomes a champion that is… “fine to have, fine not to have.” According to the specialized site Tftactics, Ryze isn’t used in any team compositions from Diamond rank and above. Cost is one thing, but not many players are impressed with Ryze’s skill when the luck factor is too high. Some even argue that Ryze takes up a position in the lineup while upgrading the team now requires more gold than before. Players will prioritize strong carries or champions that enhance traits to maximize power at the end of the game.

Meanwhile, what Ryze can do is provide support effects which only truly take effect when this champion has items. Moreover, Ryze’s appearance rate in the Shop is also somewhat lower than other 5 gold champions. This is another reason why Ryze is not favored, alongside being difficult to operate or requiring many elements to be effective.
Of course, it is hard to immediately say that Ryze is a mistake from Riot. But clearly, this champion has not been very popular with players. And perhaps, in the future, Riot needs to make some adjustments for Ryze to truly become an indispensable piece, worthy of his 5 gold price.
