Vex – Mage Composition in TFT Season 12
In the previous patch of TFT Season 12, Vex and the Mage champions rose to great heights after a comprehensive buff from Riot Games. However, the “overpowered” strength of the Mage composition only lasted a few days before Riot nerfed this system in patch 14.20b. In the newly released patch 14.21, Riot Games implemented another critical nerf that made the Vex – Mage composition significantly weaker.

Specifically, the additional AP at the 7 Mage threshold will be slightly reduced, making the output damage of this composition far less impressive. Furthermore, the powerful Tech Core of this composition called “Learning to Cast” has also been heavily nerfed in its accumulated AP stats. As a result, the scaling damage over time of the Mage composition has been significantly reduced, and this system has become much weaker in the late game.
Rumble – Forge Path Composition in TFT Season 12
Among the “Hero Cores” in TFT Season 12, Rumble’s Forge Path is an exceptionally powerful upgrade. This upgrade even opens up a very strong Rumble carry playstyle, providing this unit with damage, full healing, and reduced ability casting energy. Not to mention that as a Vanguard unit, Rumble has considerable durability and is very difficult to take down even with numerous damage items.

However, Rumble’s power has been continuously nerfed recently, culminating in patch 14.21. Specifically, this unit’s maximum energy will increase by 10 points, significantly reducing its ability to cast spells continuously. Moreover, the damage output from Rumble’s abilities has also been nerfed previously, making it no longer a powerful and worthwhile investment. Players might only want to use Rumble when the shop offers too many of this unit.
Hwei – Vanguard Composition in TFT Season 12
In patch 14.20 of TFT Season 12, Hwei – Vanguard can be said to be an extremely strong 3-cost reroll composition used by many players. The ability to upgrade both Hwei and Mordekaiser alongside the buffed Vanguard system made this composition nearly perfect. However, the rise of Hwei – Vanguard was quickly dampened by Riot as consecutive nerfs were implemented. Notably, the Blue Buff (Hwei’s signature item) had its additional damage stats reduced whenever the champion participated in a takedown.

Not stopping there, this composition continued to be weakened in patch 14.21 as the additional AP from the Learning to Cast core has been significantly nerfed. This has caused the strength of the Hwei – Vanguard composition to drop heavily as it struggles to “snowball” through the match as effectively as before. Perhaps those who are passionate about Hwei should look for alternative paths for this champion, such as relying on the newly buffed 7 Glacial threshold instead of using Vanguard units as before.
