Hwei’s Rise in TFT Season 12
In TFT Season 12, the Cannoneers are seen as a very strong core system in the late game, boasting powerful high-cost champions like Varus and Smolder. This inadvertently causes lower-cost Cannoneers to be underrated, as players often overlook them in favor of the more expensive units mentioned above. Hwei is one such name, and it wasn’t until he received a significant buff to his base damage in patch 14.20 that players began to take notice and utilize this champion more frequently.

Not stopping there, the rise of the Vanguard system has also helped Hwei perform much better. Essentially, Hwei needs time to continuously cast skills to deal maximum damage to multiple targets. Combined with the sturdiness of the 4 Vanguard threshold, Hwei faces little threat and has ample time to unleash the full power of his abilities.
Building a Team Around Hwei in TFT Season 12
At the start of the match, players can use Warwick and Blitzcrank in the front line to ensure survivability. Meanwhile, as a carry, Ziggs is considered an excellent choice, as this unit costs only 1 gold and can hold items for Hwei later on. Players can even add Nunu or Syndra to the lineup to gain additional robust power thresholds like 3 Honey Bees or 2 Sorcerers.

Upon reaching level 7, players will aim to reroll to find and upgrade Hwei. Mordekaiser is also a champion worth investing in at this stage, as he is a very strong tank and can deal significant damage if equipped properly. Players should prioritize activating the 4 Vanguard threshold at this point to ensure durability. Additionally, Zilean will be a great addition to activate the 3 Glacial threshold and provide additional crowd control for opponents.

After successfully upgrading Hwei and Mordekaiser, players should aim for level 8 to add versatile champions to the lineup. In this case, Tahm Kench and Ahri will be suitable choices to enhance attack stats through the 2 Hidden trait. Bard is also a very valuable addition, as he can inflict extra damage on opponents and activate the 2 Guardian threshold for the team.

Some Tips When Using Hwei
With the characteristic of needing to cast skills as much as possible, Hwei should have Blue Buff and Nashor’s Tooth to optimize energy recovery from both auto-attacks and skill usage. Hwei’s third item should be a Sorcerer’s Hat or a Staff of the Archangel to maximize AP stats. Regarding the Augment, upgrades that provide more items (especially the oversized staff) will greatly benefit Hwei and his teammates. Additionally, players should also consider augmenting reroll capabilities like Pandora’s Bench, Trading Post… to speed up Hwei’s upgrade process.
