Introduced as the ultimate destruction machine of the Combat Machine team, Urgot possesses what can be considered the most overpowered skill of Season 3, the Death Drill, which guarantees death for anyone caught in its path. Combined with the dominance of another Combat Machine unit, Cassiopeia, Urgot truly becomes a nightmare for players who encounter the Protector – Mystic composition after the mid-season update.

The damage or execution effect is not what players are complaining about; the ‘absurd’ point about Urgot is that he can eliminate enemy champions even when that unit possesses Guardian Angel. With strong damage, a powerful accompanying composition, and the best ‘anti-death’ item in the game proving ineffective, it’s no wonder the design team of Teamfight Tactics is receiving a barrage of criticism.

Just a few hours ago, Riot Mortdog – the lead designer of Teamfight Tactics – posted a lengthy article about the plans to rework this champion’s skill. According to the representative from Riot Games, they will not directly nerf or remove Urgot’s current skill because it is the brand and purpose of this 5-cost unit.
Instead, Riot Games will change the target selection method of the Death Drill skill and allow Urgot’s opponents to counter it, specifically:
Urgot – Death Drill skill
Target selection method: From the farthest enemy to the farthest enemy within range.
This skill can now be blocked by allied champions (the mechanism works exactly like Caitlyn’s skill).
The ability to eliminate opponents can now be prevented by Guardian Angel.
The time to pull a target will now interact with the unit’s star level – Changing from 1.5s at all levels to 3/2/1s at 1/2/3 stars.
Energy gained from eliminating targets increases from 10/20/90 to 20/30/90.
Base/max energy increases from 40/90 to 50/100.

This update for Urgot will not make this champion significantly weaker; however, players will have more options to counter his Death Drill instead of relying on “luck” as they currently do. The removal of the ability to execute through Guardian Angel is also a precise update from Riot as it eliminates the ‘absurdity’ of this champion.

In summary, with these changes, Urgot still retains his signature ability to eliminate opponents, but players will have more counters available, such as rearranging their team composition or using suitable items.
