Cloak of the Illusionist
If you watched the Teamfight Tactics World Championship: Judgment, you would have noticed that Diana is a champion frequently used in various team compositions. The reason is that she is one of the rare units capable of effectively engaging and controlling the enemy’s backline damage dealers. What makes Diana hard to counter is that the Quicksilver has fallen out of the meta for item selection for carry units. Therefore, you can easily lose when Diana is proving to be very strong in the current meta.

This is expected to change in patch 11.20 when players will have an additional choice of Light Equipment in round 5-1. By then, you will know what compositions your opponents are playing, whether they have Diana or not, and you can choose the direct counter, which is Cloak of the Illusionist. Additionally, this item also helps melee carries like Yasuo or Jax become immune to crowd control and can turn into an unstoppable “monster” in the late game.
Cloak of the Ascendant
For compositions that deal strong magic damage, casting spells early to gain a health advantage over the enemy team is extremely important. When considering damage over time, it is clear that units like Vel’Koz and Heimerdinger cannot compare to physical carry units. This makes such units very vulnerable to Cloak of the Ascendant, which increases the energy cost of enemy champions affected by it by up to 65%.

However, this item is currently chosen at a relatively low rate because round 3-6 is still too early for players to select items that counter the enemy team. With Riot’s new mechanic allowing an additional Light Equipment choice in round 5-1 appearing in patch 11.2, Cloak of the Ascendant is likely to become very popular. This is the perfect time to “read” your opponent’s strategy and see what composition they are playing. If the opposing team possesses important units with high maximum energy, this item is an excellent choice.
Blessed Blade
It’s not an exaggeration to say that the Blessed Blade is an item everyone wants to have, yet few players combine it early. The reason is that this item is often used to counter opponents rather than providing much power to champions. The same situation occurs with Blessed Blade, as it is rarely chosen in rounds 3-6 because players typically look for items that enhance damage and defense for their team.

Nevertheless, this will change in patch 11.20 when the second Light Equipment selection time will be round 5-1. Having an immediate counter item against a strong opponent is something every player wishes for in the late game. Furthermore, at this point, items for carries are generally sufficient, so you do not necessarily need to add more damage to your composition. Instead, disabling an opponent’s unit for 10 seconds with Blessed Blade will be much more valuable.
