Teamfight Tactics: 3 items that have completely changed in power from season 4 to season 5

The items below have been revamped by Riot to better fit Teamfight Tactics season 5.

Bloodthirster

Currently, Bloodthirster is almost a “useless” item in Teamfight Tactics season 4. The 40% lifesteal sounds strong, but its effectiveness in practice is too low. Bloodthirster essentially does not provide the champion with burst damage effects or strong defensive capabilities. Once the damage is weak, no matter how high the lifesteal stat is, it becomes meaningless.

Unlike season 4, Bloodthirster is now an incredibly strong defensive item for physical carry champions in season 5

However, in season 5, Bloodthirster has gained a shield effect when the champion’s health drops below 40%. This allows that unit to survive much more effectively and make good use of Bloodthirster’s stats. Of course, Bloodthirster is still not an item that provides a lot of damage, but it has become a relatively strong defensive item in season 5. Players can now build Bloodthirster for carries like Draven, Nidalee, Jax… instead of ignoring it as in season 4.

Chain of Corruption

To put it frankly, this was one of the most difficult items to use in Teamfight Tactics season 4. This item was not able to maximize the healing potential when given to front-line champions. If back-line champions held the Chain of Corruption, the healing timing would be too late. Therefore, the majority of players chose not to build this item to avoid the hassle of figuring out how to use it effectively. Some would only build Chain of Corruption when they had excess items.

However, Chain of Corruption in season 5 is a completely different item. With the new effect of reducing 40% area damage for allies, Chain of Corruption has become significantly stronger. It is considered a dominant front-line defensive item and a hard counter to magic carries like Karma and Vel’Koz. It is highly likely that Chain of Corruption will become a must-build item in compositions with many melee champions in season 5.

Infinity Edge

Unlike the two items mentioned above, Infinity Edge in season 5 is much weaker compared to season 4. With the effect providing an additional 200% attack range, Infinity Edge in season 4 allowed all physical carry champions to deal damage from a very safe distance. This item caused many champions like Akali, Zed, Kayle, Olaf… to once dominate the meta of Teamfight Tactics season 4. This also made Wooden Bow a very hot item at the time.

Upon moving to season 5, the effect of Infinity Edge has completely changed, with the increased attack range capped at just 1 square. Although this item grants an additional 20% attack speed to champions, that alone is not enough to restore Infinity Edge’s value. With this change, building Infinity Edge for melee carries will no longer make sense, as the attack range increase from 1 square to 2 squares does not hold much significance. It seems this item will no longer be a “hot item” in the upcoming season 5 of Teamfight Tactics.
