On June 10 (Vietnam time), the LPL Summer 2022 officially kicked off after a long wait since the conclusion of MSI 2022. With the goal of winning the Summer Championship and securing one of the four spots for the 2022 World Championship, teams will definitely have to put in much more effort compared to the Spring Split. Not to mention, this is the time when teams are gradually forming a complete connection between rookies and veteran members, promising much more exciting matches.

The opening match of LPL Summer 2022 is one that Vietnamese League of Legends fans have been eagerly anticipating: Weibo Gaming vs. Invictus Gaming. Many hope that SofM and his teammates will showcase a fresher face compared to their performance in Spring. While a championship may be too ambitious, securing a spot in the 2022 World Championship is WBG’s top priority.
The match unfolded exactly as the audience expected. It had all the elements, from surprising picks to thrilling team fights and the talents of the players were fully displayed. In game 1, WBG made more reasonable choices compared to IG’s late-game composition. As a result, TheShy, SofM, and their teammates secured the first victory to take the lead.
Moving to game 2, the picks from both sides were almost swapped. WBG chose a late-game composition with Kayle for TheShy and Senna for ON. However, WBG could not effectively execute this strategy and was equalized by IG. But in game 3, TheShy was still on Kayle and WBG made more reasonable choices. Angel’s Ahri, which was a weakness for WBG in Spring 2022, became a crucial champion for WBG’s victory against IG in Summer. SofM also played incredibly well, turning game 3 into TheShy’s “stage”.
On various forums, the League of Legends community sent congratulations to WBG for their successful debut, despite the tough battle. The majority of the praise was directed at TheShy for his outstanding performance on Kayle in game 3. Additionally, there were numerous compliments for Angel’s improvement with Ahri. He transformed his weakness from Spring 2022 into a nightmare for Yuekai in this match.

However, notably, many comments recalled the statement from T1’s coach Polt after WBG’s victory. This is because WBG won in 2 games while they were on the… Red side. For those who may have forgotten, after the defeat to Royal Never Give Up at MSI 2022, Coach Polt stated that the main reason was that T1 was unlucky and unable to choose the Blue side.

Nevertheless, SofM and his WBG teammates had a smooth debut. This also shows that if WBG plays to their potential, they are indeed a force that any name in the LPL must be wary of if they want to compete for the title. However, WBG also needs to be more cautious and avoid losses like in game 2, if they truly want a chance to make it to San Francisco (the venue for the 2022 World Championship) at the end of the year.
