On the morning of March 1 (Vietnam time), international media announced the new weekly ranking of the global League of Legends scene. This ranking is based on the performance of teams in four major tournaments and considers multiple criteria, including form, achievements, and performance of each team in each match… However, due to the many standards considered, the results on this ranking often do not sit well with the League of Legends community.
It can be seen that T1 is leading the ranking, and this result is hardly surprising. Faker and his teammates are the only team still maintaining an undefeated streak since the Spring Split began across all four major regions. Not to mention, T1 has delivered some incredibly impressive performances. Faker and his teammates have defeated Gen.G Esports (round one), DWG KIA (both rounds) – teams considered direct competitors to T1 in their quest for the LCK Spring 2022 championship.
Following T1 are two teams from the LPL: Victory Five (ranked 2nd) and Weibo Gaming (ranked 3rd). This has raised some questions within the League of Legends community, especially among LPL fans. However, overall, even though WBG has defeated V5, the playstyle of SofM and his teammates is known for leaving fans “on the edge of their seats.” WBG can win, but they can also suffer a humiliating defeat right after.
In fact, even within a BO3 series, SofM and his teammates can show vastly different performances in each game. It’s not for nothing that WBG is dubbed “Game 2 Esports” or “Dragon Denial Gaming.” Meanwhile, V5 displays a significantly more consistent performance, and to be fair, their loss to WBG was due to the absence of “superstar” moments from V5’s members, unlike TheShy or SofM, Huanfeng… on the side of WBG.
The 4th, 5th, and 6th positions are occupied by Gen.G, EDward Gaming, and Bilibili Gaming, which is no surprise as these teams are also ranked behind the top 3 teams in both the LCK and LPL so far. However, the positions of EDG and BLG are likely to change if they do not quickly adjust their performance. Specifically, EDG recently lost two consecutive matches against V5 and Top Esports, while BLG also just fell to TES in a match on March 1 (Vietnam time).
But the controversy began to erupt regarding the positions of Royal Never Give Up and especially Fnatic. Specifically, LPL fans do not understand why LNG Esports, with the same record of 7-3, ranks higher while RNG appears in the ranking when the “Unicorn of Zhuji” is completely absent. Even more controversially, FNC made it onto the ranking while the team above them, Rogue, did not, which caused a huge debate. Some fans even claimed that FNC is the only name that does not deserve to be on this ranking.
Overall, LNG had a very poor performance in the last week of February, losing both matches (against WBG and V5). Since this is a weekly ranking, the absence of the “Unicorn of Zhuji” is perhaps not something to be condemned. Meanwhile, TES, with their recent good form after defeating several big names like FunPlus Phoenix, JD Gaming, and EDG, has appeared in the ranking at the 10th position.
Currently, this ranking still remains quite controversial. But as mentioned above, this ranking is based on many criteria, and therefore, there will undoubtedly be results that do not satisfy fans. The teams mentioned will need to work harder to maintain their results or improve their performance if they do not want to end up empty-handed after the Spring Split 2022 concludes.
