T1 kicked off their round-robin matches in the LCK Summer 2024 against the strong opponent Hanwha Life Esports. This is the same team that narrowly defeated T1 just last week and is currently ranked second in the standings. Many fans hoped that T1 would secure a victory, not just to avenge their previous loss but also to regain their form and competitive spirit for the upcoming matches in the group stage. However, everything was completely contrary as this time, HLE even annihilated T1 more quickly than in their recent encounter.

In both games, T1 had opportunities to win. However, while in Game 1, HLE fully utilized resources and turned Doran’s Jax into a real “monster”, in Game 2, there were hasty and mistake-filled plays from T1’s players. The rare highlights in Game 2 were probably Oner’s solo kill on Doran in the Top Lane and Faker’s aggressive play. Meanwhile, HLE played much more cautiously and finished off T1 neatly after just a few skirmishes. Losing to HLE marks T1’s third consecutive defeat, placing the team in a precarious situation regarding both their standings and competitive mindset.

However, for the fans, while T1’s loss might be acceptable, the way T1 played has genuinely raised concerns. Even die-hard T1 fans cannot comprehend what is happening to the reigning World Champions. Since returning from the Esports World Cup 2024, they have only won one match and lost all the others. If last week one could argue that T1 was too fatigued, then in this week’s matches, excuses no longer hold water to explain their lackluster performance, which resembles that of amateur young players rather than seasoned stars of T1.

Of course, hope for T1 is not entirely lost as they have been in worse situations than this last year. But clearly, if they continue to perform like this, the likelihood of T1 still making it to the playoffs is there, but competing for a spot at Worlds will be very difficult, as there are currently at least three other teams ready to obliterate T1 in their current weakened state, namely Dplus KIA, HLE, and KT Rolster.
