Struggling Victory Against Bottom Team, WBG Secures Playoff Spot but Faces Harsh Criticism: “Playing Like Academy Players in LCS”

Weibo Gaming entered the match against LGD Gaming on March 5th (Vietnam time) aiming to regain a victory after a “humiliating” defeat to Royal Never Give Up. While holding the top spot in the standings, SofM and his teammates still needed another win to secure their place in the playoffs for the 2022 LPL Spring Split. What better opportunity for WBG than facing LGD, a team currently in the bottom four of the standings and struggling with inconsistent performance.

Game 1 of the match showcased WBG’s domination over LGD. Without spending too much time and effort, SofM and his teammates ended the game in just 26 minutes with a clear advantage in gold, resources, and kills. LGD had moments of resistance but they were ineffective.

However, everything turned upside down in Game 2. The two teams fought for every advantage, but LGD’s players took the initiative. LGD had a slight edge in kills and resources, but WBG held their ground well. Unfortunately, SofM and TheShy were feeding too much in this game. Therefore, even though Huanfeng played very well, it was “beyond his capabilities.” LGD equalized and took the match to a decisive Game 3.

Game 3 was also not a great showing for WBG, especially Twisted Fate in Angel’s hands. This player started the game and middle game “playing with minions” with a KDA of 0/0/0. Luckily for WBG, the “Angel” shone at the right moment when the game entered the decisive late phase, especially during the chaotic situation in the Baron pit. WBG secured their third Mountain Dragon and pushed from the mid lane, ultimately closing out the arduous game.

With this victory, WBG secured a spot in the 2022 LPL Spring Split playoffs. However, their playstyle did not instill confidence in the fans. Across various forums, many fans believe that WBG will soon “bow out” in the playoffs if they do not improve their gameplay. Some even suggested that WBG played Game 2 worse than academy players in the LCS.

Why not support the top lane more often? Do you communicate regularly? Do you discuss? As a team, you need to help each other consistently.

If it weren't for the last 20 minutes, I would have thought Angel was playing Kayle or Kassadin.

I hope everyone knows how to use Twisted Fate's ultimate to help teammates when picking him.

Game 2 was truly the worst game I have ever watched. If I removed the name tags and replaced them with NA players, it would make more sense.

Game 2 could be mistaken for an academy match in the LCS.

In any case, SofM and his teammates have accomplished their first goal in the 2022 LPL Spring Split, despite still facing many issues. As they enter the playoffs, all teams will be at 100% strength. At that time, SofM and his teammates will also have to play at their absolute best if they do not want to regret the end of the 2022 LPL Spring Split.
