Recently, the ranked gameplay situation of players on the EUW server after attending the World Championship 2021 in Iceland has garnered significant attention from the League of Legends community. In addition to following who climbs to Challenger first, LoL fans have been “treated” to some “laughable yet frustrating” experiences, such as groups of players facing off against teams comprised entirely of professional players or Faker being relentlessly “hunted” by the EUW ranked community…

However, alongside these humorous incidents, numerous players have encountered some unforgettable experiences. Specifically, ShowMaker faced a situation so frustrating that he exclaimed, “EUW (players on the EUW server) hate me, always.” In that match, he played Zoe and, along with his Support Brand, who is a Challenger rank, could not manage to win a 2v8 due to his teammates continuously feeding, while ShowMaker, with his skill and the mobility of Zoe, was not taken down often but was still camped relentlessly.

Lwx – the AD Carry playing for FunPlus Phoenix – faced an even more tragic situation. It’s unclear what he did, but he was subjected to racism by opponents during a match. Lwx did not respond, but clearly, this behavior is utterly unacceptable, especially since these players are competing at high ranks – where players possess a certain level of skill.

Lwx’s teammate Doinb also had an extremely unpleasant experience on the EUW server. While ShowMaker encountered feeders and Lwx dealt with racism, Doinb faced teammates who “didn’t know how to play video games.” Specifically, due to a misunderstanding, Doinb, playing Talon, failed to coordinate with his teammate playing Samira. Perhaps out of frustration, the player known for his serious demeanor while gaming couldn’t help but curse. However, what surprised and amused many fans was that even while he was angry, Doinb still remembered to count spells.

However, it is worth noting that many in the European League of Legends community downplay the issue of players facing toxicity and discrimination in-game. In fact, some even half-jokingly suggest that European teams will have a better chance as Korean players have “lost their competitive spirit” while climbing ranks.

On any server and at any rank, there will always be toxic players with countless different methods, and this is not a new occurrence; it has almost become a norm in League of Legends as well as other Esports titles. Many hope that Riot will soon implement effective measures to tackle this issue, especially as the game continues to grow worldwide.
