In Teamfight Tactics, the presence of a 5 gold champion with overwhelming power is no longer a surprising occurrence. In fact, many players would express dissatisfaction if 5 gold champions do not exhibit special skills. This is because acquiring these champions is extremely difficult, and upgrading them is even harder due to the low probability of getting the desired champions.

Recently, Riot conducted a survey regarding the 5 gold champions in TFT. Specifically, the question was posed by Riot Mortdog – the project lead for TFT. The question was: “Should there be a mechanism for 5 gold 3 star champions to win 100% regardless of any circumstances?” Nearly 80% of participants in the survey chose “Yes” to this question from the director.

However, Mortdog himself left players stunned by asserting that there will never be a mechanism allowing 5 gold 3 star champions to achieve a 100% win rate regardless of the opponent’s composition or strategy, and that there wouldn’t be a similar 5 gold 3 star champion. The director explained that for him, TFT is only interesting when any player has a 1% (or even just 0.1%) chance of winning.

Riot Mortdog also mentioned that he wants every team composition and champion to give players an opportunity to strategize, skillfully outplay seemingly powerful setups from their opponents. Moreover, according to Mortdog, the thrill from players’ innovative thinking is truly the key to TFT. He even referenced a legendary video clip where a 5 gold 3 star Fiddlestick lost simply because the opponent used a Scarecrow to “outplay” this champion.

In reality, Mortdog’s insights are entirely understandable. If a 5 gold 3 star champion were an “auto win,” it would make strategy become monotonous. Players would easily become discouraged, and the phenomenon of “spamming” to reach 5 gold 3 star would strip TFT of its creativity.
