In recent days, the name SBTC Esports has certainly been mentioned the most by the VCS community. They are displaying two extremely contrasting faces at the two largest tournaments in the Vietnamese League of Legends scene today: the SEA Games 31 LMHT qualifiers and the VCS Spring 2022.
While in the highest-tier tournament of the Vietnamese League of Legends – VCS Spring 2022, SE went through a disastrous debut week with two clean defeats, in the first week of the second round of the SEA Games 31 qualifiers, they brilliantly defeated GAM Esports – a nemesis that SE had never won a single game against since its establishment. Recently, they also took down Team Secret to complete the first week of the second round with two consecutive victories, unexpectedly becoming one of the most promising names to advance to the final four.
However, just when the team started to play seriously, allowing the audience and especially SE fans to enjoy some very joyful moments of coming out of their shells, the official fanpage of SE recently made a “comedic” blunder that went “straight to the ground.” Specifically, while all the viewers were still engrossed in watching game 2 of the match between SE and TS, with TS putting pressure on the game but everything was still undecided, the “Pink Chick” fanpage announced that this team lost game 2 and was preparing to move on to game 3.
This “timeline hack” announcement immediately caused a stir in the VCS community. Countless comments “roasting” from fans flooded under the SE team’s social media post. Some even suspected SE of rigging the results. Although the match was indeed delayed by a few minutes, the actions of the SE fanpage were truly unprofessional.
Subsequently, the SE fanpage issued an apology to the audience for “accidentally” announcing the result early and stated that the members of this content team had their salaries deducted. However, clearly, the fanpage acted extremely unprofessionally, and the announcement of the result was not deleted despite receiving numerous interactions and critical comments below.
From the actions of the SE fanpage, it can be seen that both SE specifically and VCS in general still lack a factor called professionalism. The mistake of SE’s content team is not too serious since the actual live broadcast time on VETV’s YouTube channel was delayed compared to real-time, but this has significantly affected the image of a serious and professional SE that Teacher Ba and the members are striving for. Fortunately for SE’s content team, the mistake occurred while the team was competing in the SEA Games 31 qualifiers – a tournament unrelated to VCS Spring 2022 or any Riot-managed events. If it had been a more serious case, not only SE but also VCS could have been “caught in the crossfire” due to this regrettable oversight.
