As of 2023, League of Legends has officially been around for over 14 years, with a total of 13 seasons of updates since the first patch in 2010. Throughout the long history of this world-renowned MOBA title, Riot has made countless adjustments, as well as added and removed many features to League of Legends to achieve its current appearance. It can be said that it is quite challenging for a MOBA game to maintain its appeal and attractiveness for more than a decade like League of Legends, and Riot has managed to do that.

But of course, without significant “Big Updates,” it would be challenging for League of Legends to survive. A few years ago, Riot changed important features of League of Legends, such as the rune system and the interface. However, players are continuously evolving and getting younger, which demands more. Therefore, according to some recent information from Riot’s representatives, League of Legends is preparing to enter a new chapter with even more groundbreaking changes.

Specifically, Riot Populasers – the Game Director of League of Legends stated: “It has been 15 months since I took office, and I am thinking about new journeys. We should pursue the most seemingly unrealistic dreams rather than just focusing on perfection. Attraction is based on balance, changing through inertia, from the journey to the destination. […] Riot shows more concern for the game than players think. However, players care more about League of Legends than Riot can understand. Every time I attend events, I am increasingly reinforced in this view.”

“We want to build a development roadmap for League of Legends based on how players feel. Logic is sometimes less important than emotion. Players want to be satisfied both visually and audibly. Riot wants to prove its value and earn respect. There will be many things for players in 2024, and 2025 will change League of Legends forever.”

With these insights from Riot’s representative, many gamers are considering the prospect of a League of Legends 2.0 launching in 2025, marking a complete transformation of League of Legends. Currently, champions are still being reworked, new champions are still being introduced, and thus cannot be seen as groundbreaking changes. Only a “Big Update” about a different version of League of Legends can meet the director’s mentions from Riot.

Certainly, these will be exciting yet challenging changes, and Riot must solve this puzzle wisely to satisfy all of its gamers.
