Riot ‘Outplays’ the League of Legends Community with New Champion Yunara
On April 14, Riot officially unveiled Yunara – the mysterious Ionia Marksman in the cinematic “Land of Flowers: Beyond the Realm of Worlds.” As the 171st champion in League of Legends, Yunara quickly became the center of attention across all social media platforms from X, Reddit, Facebook to Weibo. However, this was an ‘outplay’ by Riot as initial information suggested that this champion would be a Support. But further details revealed that Yunara will actually be the third Marksman from Ionia, following Jhin and Xayah.

The League of Legends Community Divided on Yunara
In Asia, particularly in China and Vietnam, Yunara has received a flood of praise for its design that embodies the spirit of the Land of Flowers – an event that is wildly popular. On Weibo, the account @LPLFan2025 couldn’t hide their excitement: “Yunara looks stunning! This design is right on point with the Land of Flowers, there will definitely be an awesome skin.” A comment from @IoniaLover continued: “I’m already loving the Ionia vibe of Yunara, I’ll definitely buy the skin as soon as it’s released!” Chinese fans are also eagerly predicting skills related to flowers or lanterns, based on images from the cinematic.

Additionally, many opinions revolve around the hinted relationship between Yunara and Xin Zhao. According to this, Xin Zhao refers to Yunara as “The Devoted Maiden of the Sanctuary,” making Weibo fans excited: “What kind of story do Yunara and Xin Zhao have? I can’t wait for the new comic to find out!”.
However, the Western League of Legends community has expressed dissatisfaction. In recent years, Riot has continuously released female champions instead of male ones. Including Yunara, there have been four consecutive female champions debuting in League of Legends. One comment lamented: “Clearly, Riot is biased to sell skins.”

Yunara, with her stunning design and storyline linked to Xin Zhao, is currently the focal point of League of Legends in 2025. Asia welcomes her with enthusiasm, while the West maintains a cautious attitude amidst controversy and expectations. But after all, the League of Legends community still hopes this champion will bring new breakthroughs, rather than the old champion-building formulas that Riot has been implementing.
