The Teamfight Tactics game mode is gradually becoming an independent gameplay experience, and there have even been small yet professional tournaments with prizes and a high number of participating players. Therefore, Riot continues to find ways to make this mode more appealing to even more players.
Recently, on his personal page, Riot Mortdog – the lead engineer of the TFT project tweeted something that caught significant attention from the gaming community of this mode. Specifically, according to Riot Mortdog, they are testing a new mechanic called: The Sustainability of Champions. Accordingly, Riot is preparing to release a version named Wild Breath, in which every time a champion is used in battle, that champion will lose sustainability, and if used 4 times, the player will permanently lose that champion.

However, at the end of the post, Riot Mortdog noted that this was just a joke, but the idea received a lot of praise from the TFT player community. The majority of opinions suggest that if this idea became a reality, it would solve the issue of players constantly spamming the same team compositions, and it would also improve players’ skills, forcing them to think more and observe opponents at all times.

Many people also believe that this gameplay mode might be applied in the future but in the form of a different game mode or during a special event.

The trust that players have in the new mechanic one day becoming a reality comes from the fact that recently, the Ultimate Spellbook mode was tested by Riot and generated a lot of excitement within the League of Legends community. Notably, people have even seen Riot August’s familiar joke about combining Jhin and Xin Zhao become a reality in a way that could not be more “over-the-top.”
Not sure if the new mechanic will be implemented, but surely, Riot will always find ways to bring new surprises to their player community, whether it’s in a positive direction or just another version of “200 years of game development experience”.
