Riot Games’ Valorant Faces Harsh Criticism Even Before Launch, Here’s Why

Despite not being released yet, Riot Games' Project A, now called Valorant, has been heavily criticized by many review sites.

During their 10th anniversary livestream, Riot Games mentioned the possibility of launching two new products: “League of Legends: Wild Rift” and a mobile version of Teamfight Tactics, alongside a project called Project A.

Recently, Riot Games released the latest trailer for this game and announced that the official name of the project is Valorant. From what has been “shown” by Riot Games, this could be a major FPS project to compete with other similar titles on the market. In fact, prior to the trailer release, screenshots of this project had already been leaked.

From these images, many gamers have assessed that the graphics quality of Valorant is not really good, if not poor. From lighting effects, contrast, models, to rough environments… many players even mocked Riot Games, suggesting that they developed Valorant using an engine from ten years ago.

Some gamers are left wondering if it is similar to League of Legends, where Riot Games has never intended to change the graphics technology for that game over the past 10 years. With the release of Valorant, it seems there is no intention to update the engine for this game either. The project still uses the company’s self-developed engine, but the issue is that Valorant is an FPS product, completely different from League of Legends.

The release of “Valorant” has sparked debates among gamers, as the trailer released by Riot features images that closely resemble previously leaked images. Although it was announced that this trailer is just the first experimental version of the game, the system requirements for Valorant suggest that the visual quality of this project will not be as promising as gamers hope.

Perhaps what Riot Games desires is to minimize the graphical quality of this game to make it popular and suitable for the majority of gamers and current common computer configurations, similar to what they did with League of Legends. According to Riot’s ambition, adapting games like League of Legends and Valorant to low specifications for mobile platforms will be much easier than for other products.

However, gamers will have to wait for this game to officially launch before they can have the most objective and accurate view of this project. For now, let’s look forward to more information about this project as well as other products from Riot Games, one of which will definitely be LoL: Wild Rift.
