On the morning of November 9 (Vietnam time), Riot Games has officially announced the takeover of League of Legends (LoL) and the Teamfight Tactics (TFT) mode. During this process, one of the most frequently asked questions from the community is related to the account migration between Garena and Riot Games.
Without making the gaming community wait too long, Riot Games has begun answering questions about account issues during the upcoming migration:

When will the contract between Riot Games and Garena end? When will League of Legends officially be taken over by Riot Games?
Riot Games will take over the publishing of the game LoL and the TFT mode in the Southeast Asian region (including: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) from January 2023. We will announce the exact re-launch date by the end of this year.
How can players play LoL/TFT in the future? What do players need to do?
Both games LoL and TFT will be released on Riot Games’ multi-game client in the Southeast Asian region – the only login platform that features all of Riot Games’ games. To download the multi-game client of Riot Games, players can visit www.riotgames.com.
If a player lives in Southeast Asia but is currently playing on a server from another region (Europe, Japan, North America…), can they transfer their account to the Southeast Asia server?
Yes. Players can transfer their LoL account to the Southeast Asia server if they reside in Southeast Asia but are playing on an account from another region. However, this account transfer is one-way. At this time, accounts from other regions can be transferred to Southeast Asia, but they cannot be transferred back once the migration process is complete.

How will this migration affect account ranking and user transaction history?
Our goal is to help players retain as much of their progress and account data as possible during the migration.
You can follow the instructions on the Account Migration Page to transfer your Garena account information to a new or existing Riot account.
We understand that there may sometimes be some discrepancies due to technical limitations and potential issues, but we hope you won’t worry too much. Because our goal is to ensure that players will not suffer losses related to the money, time, and effort they have invested in their accounts.

We aim to help players retain core content and items of their accounts, such as emotes, skins, champions, and various in-game currencies during the transfer process. Specifically including items (but not limited to) such as:
– Skins: All of this content will be transferred. If you have a skin on both accounts, we will gift you a treasure item of equivalent value to the duplicated skin. This way, you can keep your skin and receive additional exciting rewards.
– Treasure Items: All items related to treasure will be transferred and added to your existing treasure if you already have a Riot Games account.
– RP: All RP currently available will be transferred to the Riot Games account. If you already have RP in your Riot Games account, the final RP will be combined. The RP available on the Garena server will be converted at a conversion rate when switching to the Riot Games account (to be announced later).
– Champion Mastery, Mythic Essence, Level: You will still be able to “carry the team” with your favorite champion! Champion-related stats from the current account will be transferred to the Riot Games account.
– Character Name: Your character name will be retained if you have played at least one match in 2021 or 2022.
– Friends List: We will transfer your friends list to the Riot Games account. However, please note that your friends list may not be complete upon the initial transfer if your friends have not completed their account migration. This list will be complete when all your friends have completed the process.
Our Player Support team will always be ready to troubleshoot and assist players. Early migration will also allow players to participate in a series of events and receive welcome rewards.
Will players lose their Garena LoL accounts during this migration?
After the migration phase ends, Garena LoL accounts and the TFT mode will no longer be operational. However, players can transfer their Garena account information to a new or existing Riot ID by following the instructions in the FAQ section on the Account Migration Page.
If I do not migrate my account before January, what will happen?
We encourage players to start migrating their accounts as early as possible before the new servers launch in early January 2023 to ensure a smooth process. Unfortunately, we will not compensate for lost account data for those cases where account data is not fully migrated.
Can players convert their unused Garena Shells into Riot Points?
In this migration, we will introduce many game servers and new currencies to ensure players have a “standard” Riot gaming experience. Therefore, while Garena Shells will not be converted into Riot Points, they can still be used in other Garena games. Thus, players should consider using up their Shells before the migration process begins.

Who can players contact if they have questions that need support?
Now all League of Legends and TFT players in the Southeast Asian region can contact Riot Games’ Player Support through the in-game player support feature. You can connect with the Player Support team through the Riot Games Player Support Page.
How will the experience of LoL/TFT with Riot Games’ servers differ from Garena?
Our goal is to provide the same experience for all players of these two games in the Southeast Asian region as players in other regions of Riot Games. At the same time, we also hope to bring more meaningful interactions, meeting players’ expectations for online as well as offline experiences from in-game campaigns.
This will increase accessibility to events, enhancing the exciting experiences of gamers, including community and esports activities of LoL and TFT in the region organized by Riot Games.

What benefits will players receive when migrating/merging all accounts into one Riot ID?
Players can receive rewards as well as have the opportunity to participate in many exciting events, while gaining access to all publishing services in Riot Games’ region including: Localization, Payment, Player Support, local promotional activities.
In the future, players will also have the chance to enjoy and experience integrated content/items with combined campaigns and events. Our goal is to provide players in the Southeast Asia region with the best experience with events and content/items similar to other regions.
If I already have a Riot account to play VALORANT, Wild Rift, and Legends of Runeterra, will this change affect me?
If you already have an account to play other games, you will be able to transfer your Garena account to an existing Riot ID. This transfer will not affect your current account and data in your other games.
Will Riot Games compensate players who lose their purchase history?
Our goal is to maintain the smoothest in-game experience for players throughout the migration process, and this is no exception. However, in cases where player data may not be smoothly transferred, our Player Support team will always be ready to troubleshoot and assist all affected players.
The best way to retain your data is to perform your account migration as early as possible before January 2023 when the new Riot servers launch. We understand this is a significant change, so we will offer a series of store rewards for members returning to League SEA with a new Riot ID.
So will Riot Games continue to partner with old payment partners like Garena did?
While there may be some minor changes, League of Legends and TFT players in the Southeast Asian region can continue to use similar payment methods currently available for VALORANT and our other games here.
Will Riot Games take over VCS as well?
Riot Games and Garena have had a collaborative relationship with League of Legends and made significant progress by organizing the Pacific Championship Series (PCS) in 2020. We greatly appreciate the invaluable contributions that the partnership with Garena has brought to help us develop the League of Legends ecosystem.
As part of the account migration process, Riot Games will regain ownership and operation of the VCS tournament, to bring exciting esports experiences to professional teams and League of Legends fans.
Riot Games will also continue to deploy and organize TFT tournaments. Information related to esports plans for both games will be shared later.
Will there be any price changes during this migration?
A necessary part of the process is to review all prices in LoL and TFT in the region. We want to ensure fairness with pricing in other regions. We will share information about changes once confirmed.
Thank you to Riot Games for addressing questions related to the upcoming account migration process.
