For the League of Legends community in general, there are mechanisms that have existed for a long time and have become an indispensable part of the game. Perhaps, Riot should only make adjustments to make them more user-friendly or enhance the user experience. Of course, not all modifications are accepted immediately. And until now, almost every change made by Riot for League of Legends has generated some level of controversy. The latest change involves an icon that has been associated with many generations of gamers from the “national MOBA title” – the Mastery icon.
Recently, Riot released a new official version of the Mastery icon, which is expected to appear in upcoming updates. Accordingly, the new images show that the Mastery icon will be more colorful and sharper, but it also lacks much of the “cool and tough” factor of the old icon. In fact, at a glance, players may easily associate it with some fashion-themed skins like Star Guardian or various mobile game lines.
Witnessing one of the legendary icons of League of Legends, considered a factor that showcases a player’s status or taunts opponents being transformed, the League of Legends community has varied opinions. However, the majority expressed criticism over Riot’s decision to remove the distinctive features of the old Mastery icon and completely change it into a new one. The only advantage of the new “show Mastery” mechanism seems to be that players can flaunt their icon infinitely.
Of course, every change needs time for players to adapt, especially with elements that have been with gamers since the early days like the Mastery icon. The only problem is, this “blockbuster” from Riot seems to be turning into a “flop,” and at this point, players may only accept the new Mastery icon because they have no other choice.
